Is Shaman Sickness the Hidden Cause of Your Health Issues?

What is Shaman Sickness? Put simply, it’s when someone becomes ill because they have a calling but they’re not fully living it. When I first came across this concept, it was like a light bulb went off in my brain, and it became the key to healing myself from chronic illness.

What is Shaman Sickness?

Check out this video to find out what Shaman Sickness is, and why it affects so many different kinds of people, not just spiritual healers but also entrepreneurs, creatives, and more.

Where does the idea of Shaman Sickness come from?

Many traditional shamanic cultures have this concept, and it is one of the ways they identify shamans. When someone gets sick, but they don’t respond to the medicine that’s used in their culture, it means that they are supposed to be a shaman, and when they begin their training, their symptoms go away.

In a non-shamanic culture like ours, things look a bit different. I see shaman sickness affecting a wide range of people: not just those who are called to a traditional role of shaman, but also artists and creatives, healers, visionaries, activists and entrepreneurs.

The heart of it is this: if you sense that you have something to offer the world, but you haven’t been able to find a way to make that your life’s work, shaman sickness could be a major factor in your health problems.

Why does Shaman Sickness affect so many kinds of people?

A shaman is someone who provides a bridge between two worlds: the material world and the spiritual world. In many indigenous cultures, that looks a certain way, and can involve trance states and healing others.

But in the modern world, people have the freedom to express their gifts in infinite ways. There are many of us who are playing a role where we bridge two worlds in our work and our lives. Artists create a bridge between the artistic vision in their hearts, and work to birth that vision into a form that others can see, hear, or feel. Visionaries, entrepreneurs and change-makers create a bridge between what is and what could be.

More people than we realise carry a piece of the shamanic gift for insight and transformation, but when we haven’t yet found a way to fully live that gift, it can really mess with our health.
